Get creative with indoor plants

By definition, interior design is the art and science of enhancing interior spaces to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment. Thinking of creating healthier and more aesthetically pleasing spaces, introduction of natural elements into your indoor spaces cannot be overlooked. As we mentioned in our blog earlier, there are so many ways to bring a little bit of outdoors to your indoors. From wooden and rattan furniture to cotton and jute accessories, using products made of natural materials is common. But when thinking of bringing nature into man made dwellings, use of plants cannot be ignored. Having gorgeous natural aesthetics and numerous benefits and uses, plants become a strong choice as an interior design accessory to enhance spaces and bring life to any space.

In this blog we are listing some of our all time favorite indoor plants and their application to enhance your indoor spaces

  1. Fiddle leaf fig : This beautiful  lush plant became the most sought after plant by home plant owners. Fiddle leaf fig grows well by the window or places that are bright, making it a good plant choice for living room and bedroom. We love having these by the window side coffee table or by the reading corner. If you have rooms that are smaller in size, this plant will make your space look fresh, dramatic and playful. Fiddle Leaf Fig is native to the tropics, where they thrive in very warm conditions and grow tall rather than out. So find a warm and bright space with higher ceilings. Avoid making drastic changes to temperature settings in spaces where the plant is placed.

  2. Bird of paradise : Bird of paradise is a large, relatively easy to grow plant that creates a bold tropical flair to any indoor space. This plant requires adequate amount of care. Similar to the Fiddle Leaf Fig plant, Bird of Paradise requires bright light too. With proper care and good growing conditions, it can grow up to 5-6 feet even in indoor spaces. Its broad, arching leaves and beautiful green color makes it appear attractive and dramatic. It creates a graceful statement in entryways or as a statement corner piece in any room. Sun filled spaces with Bird of Paradise is the kind of power couple we like!

  3. Monstera : Trendy and beautiful Monstera is an all time favorite of city dwellers as it grows in medium to bright indirect light conditions. It can grow up to 2 feet wide in right conditions. It’s deeply notched, heart-shaped leaves and deep green color make for an excellent accent piece in indoor spaces or can also be used as a space dividers.

Display plants- Wall hangings and shelving display

  1. Snake plant: This is the easiest plant to maintain in your house. This plant is relatively smaller in size and grows in length making its placement flexible. With deep green leaves outlined by a lighter green shade, it brings freshness in otherwise dull areas like bedside tables, open shelves or even a hallway passages with some nice pedestal pots. Since display plants are much smaller in size, they always look lush and more appealing when placed with more plants.

  2. Boston fern - Boston fern requires bright, indirect light to grow and is widely used because of its desirable features as a house plant. Boston ferns are attractive, with long, graceful fronds bedecked with tiny leaves making them perfect to be displayed in hanging baskets or pedestals.

Some of our other favorite display plants :

Aloe Vera, Spider Plant, Pothos, String of Pearls, Wandering Jew Plant.

Table plants and succulents

In botany, succulent plants, also known as succulents, are plants with parts that are thickened, fleshy and engorged, usually to retain water in arid climates or soil conditions. Along with their application in cosmetics and medicines, they are a popular low maintenance plant choice for many. When different varieties of succulents are put together in beautiful pots/trays, they make even a dull storage unit, coffee table or even a bathroom counter visually interesting. Some of the most common succulent varieties are :

Donkey Tail, Baby Toes, String Of Buttons, Moonstones, Pinwheel Desert Rose, Zebra Plant, Echeveria, Jade Plant

  • Artificial plants

Though we love having real plants in indoor spaces for all their beauty and uses, they are not always everyone’s option. People living in homes with very low light, travel jobs or busy schedules who wish to have a little bit of that green freshness in their homes, the next best option is artificial plants. Almost all the above listed plants are also available in their artificial options. Today’s artificial plants look so real that you’ll hardly notice any difference visually. We spotted some real looking, good quality artificial plants at most big decor retail stores like West Elm, Ikea, Target, One Kings Lane and Urban Outfitters.
