Easy decor tips to get minimalist decor right

Dwellistic decor tips:

Modern, minimalist yet comfortable decor for your home

We at Dwellistic believe in creating homes that have a timeless character and soul, homes with elements that have a purpose and a story. Minimalist design helps achieve this intention. The purpose of minimalist design is to highlight only that what needs to be in focus. It drops all the necessary forms, colors and elements that try to shift attention from focal point. This kind of comfort minimalism stays away from all superfluous elements and puts functional aspect first with just the right balance of aesthetic details to make it cozy.

Is this something that interests you? If yes, have you wondered how much is too much or too less? How to achieve a right balance in order to make your home cozy, comfortable and clean? These are some of the most common questions we get and so here are 3 basic easy tips on how to go about it.

  •

Tip 1: Function first

Always keep in mind to address the functionality first. Decide on what the purpose of the room you are designing is. Is it to host people? Is it to relax and watch movies with your loved one? Based on its purpose define what pieces of furniture are the most essential for that room. All other elements can be added after this decision is made. Another great way to address both function and visual aesthetic is to use accessories that serve both- function & how it looks as a whole.

Tip 2: Create a visual balance

This is second most important tip while trying to create a comfort minimalist look. This includes creating a balance of colors, textures and aesthetic elements and accessories. Creating a mood board with all the elements you like helps you visualize how everything will look together. This way you can eliminate unnecessary elements or add elements if needed. Most commonly people add too many elements that may be subtle and minimal individually but make the space look cluttered as a whole. For example, use of wallpapers with neutral colors but bold patterns or textures, use of too many frames of art work with bold lettering or big pictures hung on more than one wall or even by a rug that has bold colors, patterns or texture. Understand how large or small your room is and plan out your decor accordingly.

Tip 3: Keep it neutral, natural and clean

Some of the factors to achieve a good balance are neutral colors, subtle textures, natural elements, creative systems to organize and pieces that have a timeless quality to them. These work well for both large and smaller spaces. These are key ingredients to create luxury and comfort with minimum elements.

Just remember these tips, put a plan together, take one step at a time and then let sit back and enjoy the peace and calm that soothes your eyes and soul <3
